Playing against the 6-time defending champions was always going to be a challenge, but even more so after they lost an earlier game in the tournament and could not afford to lose another. We had nothing to fear in this game, and started off well by forcing Alan MacDougall and his team to take 1 with the hammer. We continued with our hit and roll game, leaving an open draw with our final stone for 2, taking the lead! Our opponents bounced back with a two of their own in the 3rd. We elected to blank the 4th end, but were forced to hit for 1 in the 5th, going into the break all tied at 3 each. They blanked the 6th, but took control of the game when they out-hit us in the 7th and took 3. We tried to score 2 in the 8th and 9th but both times had to blank. To score 3 in the 10th was a big ask, and we almost did it…but all they had to do was hit one of our two stones out of the house on their final shot for the win. A much closer game than he score suggests! We matched them in every end but the 7th, where the game was won and lost. This was a performance to be proud of.
